People don’t panic when something breaks. When trauma happens to the human body, however, people panic. Emergency dental situations are usually the first thing for which people madly search for experts. Alternatively, just like plumbers, dentist offices aren’t open after hours. People call dentist offices in search of a 24 hour dentist, but they know they’ll only get an answering service. Discouraged, they get on the computer to type in keywords like emergency dentist. What they’ll find is a balm to soothe the pain.

Emergency Dental in Chicago
1. The wire on my braces broke. Should I cut it the rest of the way off?
Broken wires no longer support the teeth. You should see your dentist as soon as you can make an appointment. Before the appointment, take something soft like the eraser end of a pencil to rearrange the wire comfortably. A dab of orthodontist wax will keep the broken end from damaging the soft tissues of the mouth. Do not cut them. Swallowing or inhaling wires hurts the body going down.
2. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited the dentist. What do I need to do?
Make an appointment with your dentist. Tell him/her your medical history. S/he will do an exam on your mouth. This information together will tell him/her what needs to be done.
3. When will my child get his first tooth?
Generally, babies begin teething around four to six months. Some babies are later than that, but not many earlier. Teething goes on until around the year old mark.
Emergency Dental Situations
Soft Tissue Injuries
We’ve all bitten our tongue, the inside of the mouth or our lips. This is soft tissue. When these are damaged through biting or a smack in the mouth, it will probably swell. It will hurt. Treat the swelling with ibuprofen or acetaminophen. A cold pack will help reduce swelling and numb the area. See your Chicago urgent care dentist as soon as possible.
Loose or Lost Crown
A crown can loosen or get lost through an impact like an accident or by biting into something you might not have known was there. The tooth beneath will feel painful. If it’s lost, see if you can locate the tooth. Your dentist will be able to re-secure it. Before s/he does, you can put a little tooth adhesive on it to keep it in place. See your dentist as soon as possible.
